The Gulf Information Technology Exhibition (GITEX) is the leading and most important IT exhibition in the Middle East for computing, communication systems and applications. The exhibition was held from October 14-18 at the Dubai World Trade center and nearly 75,000 visitors attended the exhibition over a period of 5 days.
Visitors were attracted by the product displays that included the 22",18.1",15.7" and 15.1" LCD monitors. Also on display were the 17" Flatron series of flat screen monitors and the large screen 19" monitor. LG Electronics also displayed for the first time, the newly introduced 6x speed DVD-RAM drive and the 16x speed CD-Rewritable drive. Immense interest and sales enquiries was generated in these products by LG distributors as well as consumers from various other countries such as Egypt, Jordan, Kuwait, South Africa, Nigeria, Sudan, Kenya etc. UAE distributor sales also increased phenomenally in the duration of the exhibition.
Also, at Gitex 2001, in a specially created "Plasma World", LG Electronics heavily promoted the Flatron Plasma range of PDP. Visitors were clearly astonished and amazed at the sheer size, clarity, brightness and picture quality of the 40" & 60" Flatron Plasma. The PDP were connected to HD generators that drastically improved the picture resolution. Another new attraction was the 15" & 20" LCD TV. Gulf consumers increasingly prefer the dual function 15" LCD TV cum monitor and there is rapidly growing demand in the region for LCD TV/Visitors also showed keen interest in the 2 models of LCD projector. Gitex 2001 was helpful in generating important sales leads for these products.
Another highlight of the exhibition was the demonstration of the Iris Recognition System that drew numerous enquiries from major telecommunication, security, financial and IT related companies in the region. Being a completely new concept, UAE Television covered the Iris recognition System and telecasted in its Gitex 2001 show coverage. Other products displayed by LG included the Flat Screen TV, DVD Players and DVD Receivers.
Lebanese superstar Raghib Allama, a popular Arabic singer stopped by the LG pavilion and was very interested in purchasing the 22" LCD monitor and the 60" Flatron Plasma. LG Electronics got tremendous exposure and visibility for its products not only through the throng of visitors to the booth but also through the regional newspapers such as Gulf News, Khaleej Times, Al Khaleej and through satellite TV channels such as LBC TV, CNBC and Dubai TV.
Gitex 2001 was the ideal vehicle to showcase LG Electronics new technologically advanced products. The exhibition has not only enhanced and improved LG brand image but will give tremendous boost to sales of IT products in the region.
